Sold in Germany for the looks (certainly not for the bland taste):

BTW, encountered ' Lactuca sativa var. capitata nidus tenerimma' = Eisbergsalat
What is 'nidus tenerimma', should be there subvar. or something ?

Where did you find this? In some old garden dictionaries? In old garden and culture literature sometimes the ranks are omitted.
Btw, you misspelled it, should be "tenerrima".

The name is used in the German Wikipedia and thus in a lot of German garden magazines, but also in British ones. The sources of the article don't mention this name. A case of "citogenesis"? https://xkcd.com/978/
