Albania-Excursion : Hiking and Botany 25.4.-10.5.2025

Hello everybody,

I am organizing again in 2025 a hiking excursion in southern Albania (Zagoria valley and Hotove-Dangelli National Park) with the help of Zbulo-Discover Albania, about 10 hiking days and 4-5 town days, transport from and to Tirana included. We will study plants, local living conditions and agricultural activities in the Albanian mountains. Good physical shape required for 5-7 h of hiking in mountanous terrain and sometimes far away from any paved road and on rough mountain trails. Good mountain boots are obligatory.

We will discover mediterranean and balkan mountain vegetation and study the shaping of the landscape by traditional agricultural activities like herding and grazing, small scale crop growing, fruit tree cultivation, local gardening...

Accomodation will be in simple rural guesthouses or homestays with Albanian families and in shared double rooms in hotels (town days). Luggage transport up to 15 kg/person included. English speaking albanian guide. Full board on hiking days, town days only breakfast included.
Max. 10 people, minimum 4-5 people. The excursion is not limited to archaeobotanists, but an interest for plants, animals, landscape, and an ability to adapt to simple conditions and spontanous changes in case of bad weather.

We are looking for people interested in hiking, botany and to discover the hidden side of a country still not very well known by most people. Students can receive funding on request.
