Re: juniperus communis flower
Yes, there are both. "Zapfen" is the German word for "cone". A "Zapfen" is +- an inflorescence with multiple or many flowers of the same sex. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conifer_cone

Re: juniperus communis flower
Never checked these plants. Maybe the female structures are sterile.

Re: juniperus communis flower
I'm not sure if I'm seeing female seed cones - or if these structures are still (almost) closed male pollen cones?
Can you keep an eye on this plant to see how the flowers develop?
When I search for “Juniperus communis dioecious monoecious,” I find this:
https://besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley ... 07.01308.x
Here are some additional close-up photos of the cones (strobuli). Both the male pollen cones and the female cones feature triangular structures.

This "bract-scale complexes" are in https://www.blumeninschwaben.de/Hauptgr ... adel.htm#3 called "Zapfenschuppen" (3 Zapfenschuppen) . But there can be another whorl of three, so 2x3 .

Biological Flora of the British Isles: Juniperus communis L. P. A. THOMAS, M. EL-BARGHATHI, A. POLWART (2007)Juniperus communis is usually dioecious, occasionally monoecious (Ottley 1909); Renner (1905) noted hermaphrodite strobili but these have not been reported elsewhere.

Pollen cones axillary, solitary, 1-3 per leaf whorl, subglobose to ellipsoid, 3-5 mm long with 9-12 triangular microsporophylls. Seed cones axillary, nearly sessile, maturing in 18 months, at maturity globose, 4-13 mm diameter, with 1-2 whorls of 3 completely fused bract-scale complexes, sutures not visible ...
